Tamil Nadu police releases all DMK cadre
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu police has released all DMK cadre arrested as part of the party's jail bharo protest against what the party calls "the AIADMK's repressive regime and political vendetta".

The state DGP Mr Ramanujam told NDTV that the order to release the DMK cadre came from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa though the prisons in the state were kept ready anticipating large number of DMK cadre.

Around 50000 DMK cadre had courted arrest across Tamil Nadu in response to the DMK Chief Karunanidhi's call to protest the arrest of hundreds of DMK cadre and senior leaders including former Ministers on land grab charges. He had also asked them to not apply for bail.

Speaking to NDTV DMK MP Kanimozhi, who courted arrest after obtaining permission from court, said, "The cadre who participated in this demonstration has crossed one lakh. It's an overwhelming response from the party against the vindictive politics of the ruling AIADMK. This has shown them, I hope, what the DMK can do and how we can come together. At least from today, I hope they would understand that they cannot continue with this".
