Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today mocked arch rival DMK's attempt to target her "two leaves" symbol, saying it had instilled fear in the party led by M Karunanidhi.

"Anything viewed by jaundiced eyes looks yellow; for the DMK, which is struck by fear, whatever they see, it resembles two leaves," she quipped at an election rally in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. The crowd roared in appreciation.

The AIADMK chief's remark referenced the DMK's petition to the Election Commission and the state High Court that any sign or object that resembles "two leaves" be masked in the run-up to next month's Lok Sabha polls.

In more sarcasm, she sought to know if DMK leader MK Stalin would next ask that people wear gloves to mask the Congress' hand symbol. "Will he give a petition seeking chopping off the hands of everyone?" she said.

The DMK has demanded that all objects and signs on mini buses resembling "two leaves" and the photographs of Jayalalithaa on "Amma" water bottles and cans be covered.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had recently launched a scheme to provide 1 litre mineral water at Rs 10 a bottle, to ensure quality and affordable drinking water to the poor and middle class.

The water is available in a plastic bottle with the word 'Amma' (mother in Tamil), as Jayalalithaa is addressed by her partymen.

Responding to a notice by the High Court on the DMK's petition, the Election Commission yesterday sought two days time to respond.
