Case registered against NGO for cheating students

Puducherry: A case was registered against an Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) at Thirubuvanai near Puducherry on a complaint from four research students from Netherlands that they were cheated by the organisation, police said on Saturday.

The girl students had come to Puducherry in February on a three month research work in association with the NGO on cultural features of the union territory, police said.

The students in their complaint alleged that the NGO was trying to cheat them of money and said they did not feel safe at its premises.

The students also complained that they were tortured by the NGO. The NGO did not provide them with food and proper accommodation violating the agreement between them and the organisation.

The students said though they did not want to avail the accommodation provided by the NGO, the organisation was insisting to pay 1600 Euros as per the contract for three months stay.

Following their complaint, police shifted them to a guest house.

However, when contacted, the NGO sources denied that they had cheated the students and violated the contract.
