Patna:
Angry over the firing by anti-social elements in which two MBBS students suffered gunshot injuries, the medicos today forced closure of some of the department of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) at Sheikhpura in Patna.
They also vandalised property at some of the departments and telephone exchange of the hospital, institute director Arun Kumar said.
Two MBBS students were shot at and injured by anti-social elements who objected to their stroll on the campus late last night, Kumar said.
The MBBS students made frantic attempts during the day to disrupt functioning of some of the departments of the hospital with the support of their colleagues from Patna Medical College and Hospital and All India Students' Union activists, sources said.
"They later went to the telephone exchange and vandalised property of the institute at two three places on the campus," Mr Kumar said.
"The entire incident has been videographed and those who indulged in vandalising the institute's property had been identified and being interrogated by police," he said.
Mr Kumar said, meanwhile, "We have asked MBBS students to vacate the hostels by 10 pm tonight and the girl students should vacate the hostel by 10 am tomorrow."
The situation was under control, a police officer claimed and said those involved in firing late last night would soon be arrested.
