  • Monthly salaries of Rs 1-2 lakh often feel financially challenging in Tier-1 cities
  • High expenses on rent, healthcare, schooling, and lifestyle reduce disposable income
  • Earnings in this range do not guarantee financial freedom despite being substantial

A monthly salary of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh is often considered a good income in India. However, one woman has argued that earning within this range may still feel financially difficult for people living in tier-1 cities.

In an Instagram video, Nidhi Kushwaha spoke about what she called the "Rs 1 to Rs 2 lakh salary trap". She said people earning this amount in major cities can still face high financial pressure and may struggle to achieve financial freedom.

Nidhi said, "I am surprised that there isn't more discussion on this issue, because even people earning Rs 1-2 lakh a month in Tier-1 cities are facing significant financial pressure."

"Earnings are high enough to make one want to move beyond a lower-middle-class lifestyle, yet not enough to live an affluent life without worry. Expenses related to rent, taxes, healthcare, cars, schooling, and lifestyle are very high in Tier-1 cities. Consequently, a large portion of one's income is spent, yet there is no sense of financial freedom. This is the trap of a Rs 1-2 lakh salary," she added.

Nidhi shared her thoughts in the video's caption. She said that earning Rs 1-2 lakh a month may sound like a substantial income, but the reality feels different when trying to build a comfortable life in a Tier-1 city. Despite having a good income, she feels financially trapped.
