In an incident that reads almost like a scene from a Bollywood comedy, staff at a bar in Malaga, Spain, accidentally foiled an armed robbery after mistaking a genuine criminal for a familiar customer playing a prank, according to The Metro.

The episode took place at La Barraca de la Abuela, a local bar, when a man walked in carrying a machete and demanded money from the staff on duty. Far from panicking, the waiters burst into laughter. One employee even grabbed the weapon and remarked casually that it looked like a toy, much in the way one might react to a friend's ill-conceived jest.

According to the news report, the intruder repeatedly shouted his demands, growing increasingly frustrated. The staff, however, remained wholly unconvinced that anything serious was taking place. One worker cheerfully asked whether they should simply ring the police, a response that clearly unsettled the would-be robber.

Closed-circuit television footage captured the man then producing a firearm and banging it on the counter in desperation, clearly hoping to be taken seriously. Even when he pressed the blade against a worker's neck, the staff remained composed and unbothered. One waiter calmly observed that the knife appeared to be blunt and of little concern.

Finding himself entirely ignored, the man left the bar without a single penny equivalent to show for his efforts, walking out empty-handed and, by all appearances, deeply confused.

It was only afterwards, upon learning that the same individual had targeted several other establishments in the Las Lagunas area of the city, that the staff realised with some shock that the threat had been entirely real.

A member of the bar team said that both a colleague and a customer present at the time had genuinely believed the man was joking, and had laughed throughout the ordeal without any awareness that an actual robbery was being attempted.

The suspect was subsequently arrested after getting into an altercation at another venue in the city. As many in India would say, sometimes the best shield against trouble is simply not knowing you are in any.
