Traffic Cop Allegedly Beaten Up By Man In Mumbai

A traffic police constable was allegedly beaten up on Tuesday evening by a man on bike in Mumbai

Mumbai:  A traffic police constable was allegedly beaten up on Tuesday evening by a man on bike near Juhu Chowpatty in Mumbai, police said.

Rakesh Garud, 45, attached to the Vakola traffic division, had a scuffle with 23-year-old Amit Rajput over barricades put up by police for routine checking, they said.

Amit allegedly objected Mr Garud over the barricading. He beat up the police constable, who sustained injuries on his face and back, officials added.

The accused has been arrested and an offence was registered at Santa Cruz police station.

Last night, a woman constable was allegedly slapped by a drunken man inside a police station at Malad in Mumbai.

On August 23, constable Vilas Shinde, 50, attached to Bandra traffic division, was discharging his duty at a petrol pump when he was attacked by a biker and his brother.

Mr Shinde was critically injured in the attack. He died of his wounds on August 31 at a suburban hospital.
