  • Indrani and Peter Mukerjea, former media bosses, in jail
  • Arrested along with driver for murdering Sheena Bora
  • She was Indrani Mukerjea's daughter; driver wants to turn approver
Mumbai: One of the four people in jail for the murder of Sheena Bora has said he would like to turn approver and "disclose certain truths" about how the 24-year-old was killed, allegedly by her mother, Indrani Mukerjea and former media boss Peter Mukerjea.

In August 2015, Indrani Mukerjea was arrested, along with her second husband, Sanjeev Khanna, and her driver Shyamvar Rai, for strangling her daughter, then setting the body on fire in a forest near Mumbai.

Now, Mr Rai has told a court in Mumbai that "he was at the scene of the murder and was a participant" and wanted to share facts voluntarily in exchange for being pardoned.

The court has asked the CBI, which is investigating the case, to respond on the 17th of May to the offer.

Sheena Bora had fallen in love with and become engaged to Rahul Mukerjea, who is Peter Mukerjea's son from an earlier marriage. The relationship allegedly enraged Indrani Mukerjea.

Ms Bora's case transfixed India for a myriad of grabbing reasons after her mother's arrest. It turned out that she had been dead for two years before her murder was discovered.

There was the revelation that Indrani Mukerjea had concealed that they were mother and daughter, presenting Ms Bora as her younger sister. When Ms Bora ceased to be seen in Mumbai, Indrani Mukerjea said she had moved abroad - and then allegedly impersonated her in emails and text messages to make it seem like she was in the US.

Investigators swung last year between two possible motives. Ms Bora, it emerged, had fallen in love with and become engaged to Rahul Mukerjea, who is Peter Mukerjea's son from an earlier marriage. The relationship allegedly enraged Indrani Mukerjra. There was also talk of alleged embezzlement by the Mukerjeas, once a media power couple - and speculation about whether Ms Bora was involved in or knew of their business dealings.

Peter Mukerjea, who was arrested months after his wife, has denied any wrongdoing. In a much-headlined letter written from jail to Indrani Mukerjea recently for her birthday, he compared them to Romeo and Juliet and said he sent her "a big muaaaaah."
