The police have advised Jewish establishments to deploy security guards at their premises.
The Mumbai police has asked Jewish establishments in the city to be on alert, sources have told NDTV. The advisory comes after the interrogation of Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi.
Bhatkal has reportedly told the investigators that Jewish establishments in Mumbai have been recced by the members of the Indian Mujahideen. There are 12 Jewish establishments in Mumbai, four of which are in southern part of the city. One of these buildings, the Nariman House, was attacked during the November 2008 terror strike in which six people were killed.
The police have advised Jewish establishments to deploy security guards at their premises. They have also been told to install CCTV cameras and issue ID cards for entry. They have been instructed not to allow parking around the establishment.
Bhatkal and his associate Asadullah Akhtar were arrested from the Indo-Nepal border in August this year. They have been in the custody of the NIA since then.
Bhatkal was among the "principal conspirators" and "executors" of various terror attacks in India, the NIA has said in its charge sheet filed in a Delhi court last month. Bhatkal, who hails from Bhatkal village of Udupi district in North Karnataka, is wanted in a string of terror attacks in Ahmedabad, Surat, Bangalore, Pune, Delhi and Hyderabad, the agency said.
30-year-old Bhatkal, who was earlier associated with banned outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), is suspected to have hatched a conspiracy with others to wage war against India.
