Like magnets with opposing poles, Kim Kardashian and controversy cannot resist each other. Her short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries in 2011 was an example of it. So was her internet-breaking Paper magazine cover in 2014. More recently, Kim came under fire for promoting appetite suppressants. And just when you thought things had quietened down in camp Kardashian, Kim went ahead and changed that.
At this weekend's MTV Movie & TV Awards 2018, Kim Kardashian wore a muted crop top and maxi skirt from Atelier Versace and paired it with gladiator style heels. But the controversy all began with her hairstyle. With her outfit, she wore her flowing black locks in cornrows, which are also known as Fulani braids. Cornrows are deeply rooted in African-American culture and when picked out in isolation as a fad, is a sure-fire to create a furor on the Internet. And that's exactly what happened this time around as well. Kim was called out by furious web folk on grounds of cultural appropriation and what's surprising is that this isn't even the first time she chose to don the 'do.

Back in 2013, Kim posted a picture with cornrow braids and labelled them 'Bo Derek Braids' which were reminiscent of actress Bo Derek's hairstyle in the 1979 Hollywood movie 10.
While that mainly flew under the radar, earlier this year she sported cornrows yet again which drew much more controversy. Amidst all of it however, Kim played it cool and seemingly responded with this caption and the braids in questions.
Her recent MTV look is drawing a mixed bag of reactions (and plenty of flak within it) so we wonder how Kim will weather this storm for what seems to be the nth time.
