Four hours ago Instagram saw Kangana Ranaut with a polybag over her head. I found out about it when a friend posted a story with a caption "What is she doing!?" It is funny really that he felt the need to ask that question. It took me mere five seconds. It is the World Environment Day today, and Kangana in a clip posted later, Kangana was seen talking about how we won't be able to breathe properly with that plastic bag over our head for even ten seconds so imagine what the sea life goes through. It was her bid that we all ban plastic bags and help prevent plastic pollution, especially in the rivers and the oceans.
"In 30 years, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. I urge everyone to ban single use plastic bags. I'm joining #RallyForRivers & UN Environment in the fight against plastic pollution" the caption said.
And the fact that something questioned "Why?" or "What?" was sort of ridiculous.
The unpredictable weather, the massive onslaught of all kinds of pollution wherever we go, all of it is a tolling bell on how sustainability, caring for the nature and our environment, and being wary about things such as global warming is truly the need of the hour.
So maybe you can't take huge steps to do your part. But you can always start small.
Actually shut the lights out when you leave the room
Your mom might not be around to nag you about that anymore but that doesn't mean you shouldn't keep this in mind. Switching off the lights during the Earth Hour isn't enough. Do it on a regular and help save energy.
Stop littering, please
It is so unconscious a move, because keeping the trash with us for a little while longer until we find a trash bin is apparently too much to ask for. Beaches, streets, rivers, roads - in your city and even when you are travelling - please make a conscious effort to keep the environment clean.
Take public transport
Mass transit is so beneficial for lowering greenhouse gases that emanates from all the cars on the road. Not only are you saving time and the environment, if you walk, or ride a bike, you are making healthier choices.
