So you think you know it all when it comes to the beauty world. You know which brush to blend with, the shadow to apply in the crease and when the latest product is launching. Basically, you've got it down pat. But there's one thing you probably don't know and that's how to read product labels. The labels on beauty products look like Greek and are, more often than not, skipped past. But here's how to build on your beauty knowledge and find out what they really mean.

1. Fire

Like on any other product, the flame symbol denotes that the beauty product is flammable. This symbol is usually found on hairsprays and nail polishes to tell you to never, ever keep them in the vicinity of an open flame or cigarette.

2. Leaping Bunny

If you spot a small bunny leaping on your tube of primer, it means that product you are using is cruelty-free and is not tested on animals at any stage during its development.

3. Dual Arrows

Two intertwining arrows, usually in green, mean that the product you are using is recyclable. So make the best use of it by dropping in a recycle bin. It's a small way to do your bit to save the earth.

4. PAO (Period After Opening) Container

You've definitely spotted a symbol of a flat container with a number written over it, which is the PAO container. This means that the product is ideal for usage for that many months or years once it has been opened. Remember, the PAO value begins once you open the product, not when you buy it. Makeup hoarders, rejoice!

5. Hand Book

On some products, you might even see a symbol of a hand with an open book. While most products don't really need instructions (C'mon now, we all know how to use lipstick!), this symbol denotes that there's a leaflet in the package, just in case you do.

6. Lowercase E

The lowercase E on many makeup products means that the quantity of product specified within the bottle is as accurate as possible.
