We're fond of Twinkle Khanna for many things - her quick-witted tweets, her keen sense of interior design and since yesterday, her brand new look. Along with a black and white picture, the star showcased a brand new do on Instagram and declared '#ShortIsTheNewLong'.

We're always up for a spanking new look which softens the appearance of one's face, especially if it's a step aside from boring long locks and Ojas Rajani, Celebrity Hairstylist agrees. "While many Indian women favour long locks, their weight and gravity itself pulls down any hairstyle done with it. It's also high on maintenance, which is why they end up with it tied in a bun or ponytail," says Ojas.

We're giving Twinkle Khanna's new sleekly layered look a thumbs up and Mrsfunnybones, who is also the brand ambassador of L'Oreal Professional, pulls it off elegantly, even though it isn't a drastically short hairdo like a cheekbone grazing bob or a pixie. Like her, is there a way for long-haired ladies to experiment with their tresses without opting for a dramatic chop?

Ojas, who has styled stars in both, Bollywood and Hollywood, says it's possible - "Using techniques like water perming or curling hair with hot rollers can add bounce and texture which will hold itself well for long hair. Of course, a long layered hairstyle without losing much length is also favoured for long-haired women."

For a more dramatic upgrade without losing an inch of your precious hair, Zahabia Lacewala, Celebrity Hairstylist at Rikoshe Salon & Academy has all the right hairstyling tips. "A faux bob is a wonderful way to play up long hair without the commitment of a short haircut. Besides that, women can also try fringe hair switches, which are a type of hair extension that works like a clip-on fringe. This will dramatically change their look," advises Zahabia.
