Wedding bells are ringing for Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja. The much anticipated wedding is scheduled for May 8 and it is the absolute talk of the town. There's a whole lot of excitement to see what the bride will wear. Hell, there is a lot of excitement to see what the guests will wear too - considering that all the A-listers of Bollywood are going to be there. Given that Sonam is a style icon, that's not surprising. If we allow ourselves some hyperbole, we would say Sonam Kapoor is a chic goddess who rarely goes wrong with what she wears and how she looks. Obviously a lot of credit goes to her sister and stylist, Rhea Kapoor.
With Sonam, it is not just about couture gowns, dresses and modish mix-and-match outfits. The woman can rock indie-chic as well as she can carry a Cinderella dress. She is as much a style inspiration in a Ralph & Russo gown, as she is in an Anamika Khanna saree. She makes the outfits her own, gives them her pizzazz, be it bold red lips or a maang teeka to go along or a natth.
Which is why there is so much excitement to see not just what she will wear for her wedding functions but also how she will wear the trousseau. In the meantime, we went back to some of the occasions Sonam donned Indian outfits and gave us major desi-dress goals, as well as some styling ideas.
Can anyone do glitz the way this actress does, keeping it classy?
A colour-rich blouse with a simple cotton saree and jhumkas.
And speaking of sprucing it up? Saree with brogues is not a no-no anymore.
Gajras and jhumkas seem to be a couple of Sonam's favourite accessories. And why not? Easy way to add some charm to any outfit.
Silk sarees anyone? Rich, luxurious, and pretty sensational.
Then there was this where Sonam Kapoor looks like she stepped out of a Raja Ravi Varma painting, in a Kanjivaram silk saree with a kalamkari border and gold work.
"I'm a very traditional dresser and I prefer traditional sarees, they are my favourite," Sonam's posts say. No surprises there, considering it is a love story that began early on in life.
Can't wait for the wedding, Sonam Kapoor. You do you.
