Whether you're packing to go home for the holidays or packing for a long trip abroad - packing and carrying luggage for an extended period of time can be rather tedious. Where there is travel, there is also the daunting task of packing before the excitement kicks in. No matter what you do and how many things you feel tempted to carry, though, the last thing you want is to be one of those people whose luggage explodes into a mound of chaos as soon as they reach their destination. Not only is this extra luggage going to become a point of stress for you on your travels, but in all the additional things you choose to carry, you're also likely to forget or misplace some important things.
So if you're headed for a long vacation, keep these packing hacks in mind.

1. Carry one big bag
You might think that carrying several small bags is better than carrying one big one - lest you have to pay for overweight luggage on a flight, or are unable to find space to fit in your bag on a train or bus. But that's far from true. Carrying a number of small bags only proves to be a hassle when you're travelling. Imagine having to hold two or three medium sized bags while also trying to manage your ticket, your phone, your wallet and maybe a hand bag, while on the go. It is just as cumbersome as it sounds. You only have two hands, and having one big bag with all your essentials makes it much simpler to move around between different stops. It also makes it much easier for you to identify your luggage and keep it safe.
2. Plan your outfits
The most disconcerting feeling is reaching a new place with more things than you can handle and having no room to keep any of your stuff either. Unless you're going on a luxury holiday, in which case you can carry as much as you want, be frugal with the number of things you pack into your bag. One of the best ways to do this is to plan your outfits while packing. Taking pre-decided outfits is a great way of keeping yourself from going overboard and packing everything you like in your wardrobe. Plus, it'll also help you leave some room in your suitcase for the stuff you might buy while on vacation.
If you can't help but pack in a few extra things because you're worried you might fall short on clothes, stick to the 2/1 rule. Two t-shirts to one bottom - it'll help you solve your problem.
3. Roll your clothes
Instead of laying everything flat, try rolling your clothes from one end to another (like you'd see in a Swiss roll). It's faster and will help maximise space. Reserve the layer by layer packing for items that are more delicate or prone to wrinkling.
