With every passing day, movie promotions for Veere Di Wedding are beginning to seem more like a fashion event, with the 4 leading ladies in top form. It's almost expected really, since fashion plays large part in the film. Right from start, Swara Bhasker put her killer pins on display while Kareena Kapoor does her newly minted abs. Shikha Talsania's fresh style taught us a thing or two about embracing curvy girl style while Sonam Kapoor turned out looking like..well, Sonam Kapoor.
If there's one star whose style we waited for with bated breath, it has got to be Bollywood's favourite fashionista. Post Sonam's opulent wedding and Cannes appearance last week, you'd think the relaxing honeymoon phase would kick in. But not for this star. She's been promoting her movie with gusto and consistently putting her most fashionable put forward. If you thought her last few looks like the dark floral dress or the pop of colour on her lids were peak Sonam, you ain't seen nothing yet.
At today's promotions, Sonam chose ripped denim. Now we aren't talking distressed jeans or even a chambray shirt. The actress wore a ripped denim saree. Yes, the garment really does exist and we're glad to report that she wore it with finesse. Made by Diksha Khanna, the ripped denim saree is made of different washes with distressed areas over the drape. This was paired with a white shirt, also from Diksha Khanna, hoop earrings and a messy updo hairstyle.
The internet doesn't take too lightly to distressed anything and soon enough, Sonam's latest look was spotted. The reactions were a mixed bag but in usual form, they didn't hold back.
Some knew that she was the only one who could possibly work a look like this.
After all, she is a style slayer par excellence.
They acknowledged the uniqueness of the saree and her ability to wear it.
Then there were others that weren't as kind.
They thought fashion was grasping at straws.
Or that God could intervene, perhaps.
While still others went ahead and declared it a failure.
Granted it's a look that's completely out of the ordinary and even outright strange but could anyone else wear the ripped denim saree the way Sonam did? Not a chance. It may not be relatable or what we perceive of a saree but fashion is funny like that and we're thrilled to see the star work it for all she's worth.
