After gorging on mithai or sipping on champagne, most people tend to go to the gym to burn it off or, the more serious, to the kitchen for a juice cleanse. You've probably heard the words juice cleanse or juice fast before along with how it claims to 'detox' and 'purify' your body. But before you grab a 12 pack to finally treat your body right, here's what you need to know about juice cleanses - it might just change your mind.
1. You Will Feel Tired
Shifting from solids to straight up liquids is pretty tough on the body. While a juice cleanse will provide the body with nourishment from vegetables and fruits, what it won't give it is essential carbohydrates, sodium, proteins and healthy fats. Due to the lack of it, you might find yourself tired, dizzy and aching to curl up in a corner.
2. You Might Lose Weight
Since only liquids limit the body's calorie intake drastically, you might find yourself losing weight. Unfortunately, that might not be the best kind of weight loss because it's possibly muscle mass that you're losing. Since a healthy body needs muscle (and healthy nourishment to create it!), this isn't the good kind of weight loss.
3. Your Skin Will Become Dull
Juices often contain a large amount of sugar and not enough of the essential nutrients that your body requires in the long run. In turn, this lack of vitamins, minerals and good fats will affect your skin too and leave it dry, rough and dull.
4. Your Bowel Movement Will Be Affected
When juiced, fruits and vegetables lose all of their good fibre. And because fibre is essential for regular, healthy bowel movement, you might find yourself faced with stomach aches, acidity and irregular bowel movement.
5. You Will Be Able To Pinpoint Problems
It's not all bad though - if you've been facing stomach troubles and aren't sure why, a juice cleanse may help. By eliminating tricky food sources like gluten and dairy, you'll be able to discover what it really was that caused the problem in the first place.
