You can keep your eyes healthy, even if you're looking into a screen all day

Increasingly with time, our world is becoming more and more screen-centered. No matter where you are or what you might be up to, doing most things without the help of a screen has become almost impossible. Whether you're reading a book, watching a movie, working or just trying to navigate your way around a city - most activities involve, yes, a screen. Not to forget, the hours you spend just scrolling through Instagram once you're done staring at a screen all day at work. With all of this screen-time, it's easy to experience a certain amount of eye irritation and a decline in your retinal health.

The truth is, that we live in a digital world, and the possibility of solving this optical issue by going on a digital detox is almost nil. So we're sharing a few ways in which you can keep your eyes healthy, even when you're looking at a screen all day long.

1. Set aside a break time

You don't even need to set aside one large break time together in a chunk. All you have to do is take a break from looking at a screen every 20-30 minutes for about 20-30 seconds. Focus on something that is about 20 feet away and look at it and it's surroundings for that time. Repeat this through the day and your eyes will thank you.

2. Wear glasses that block out blue light

Although the blue light that is emitted from most screens makes the screens more energy efficient, it can actually have an adverse effect on our eye health. That blue light can cause eye-strain, cause dryness in the eyes and even disrupt your sleep cycle. Investing in a good pair of blue light filtering glasses can help mitigate these issues.

3. Calculate the distance between you and your screen

Ideally, you should be sitting at least 25 inches away from your screen. The general preferred distance is anywhere between 20-40 inches from the eye to the surface of a screen. A good way to keep the distance in check is by making sure the screen is at arm's length distance. The bigger the screen, the more distance you will want.
