When we think of festive wear, we automatically think of loud and proud florals with heavy embroidery. Traditional floral patterns with zari work usually in rich colours are what rock the Indian festive wear scene. That is slowly changing lately because women want to wear easier to carry off silhouettes that is less hassle and still effortlessly chic. There is no denying that we're fans of this trend as well; what's there not to love about it? Easy and light fabrics that don't just make you stand out but also allows you to dance the night away! The new age woman wants things quick, easy and lemon squeezy without compromising on the style. Women are ditching the traditional styles for more contemporary silhouettes and prints that will also have a longer shelf life in the closet. Floral prints have always been around and have been super popular throughout the year (and not just in spring) and women are slowly embracing fluid silhouettes with large floral (read: dreamy) prints to ace the festive season.
Whether it is a beach vacation or a destination wedding, you're bound to never go wrong with huge floral prints and if you have beautiful pastels paired with it, then you're up for grabs, ladies. We got talking to Nanki Papneja, founder of Limerick a premium women's label that has understood the needs of the new age woman and replicated it in her collection, Chrysalis. Imagine a floral paradise that perfectly in sync on your maxi dress and sarees that sets poetry in motion which is straight out of an exotic dream.
1. Tell us the inspiration behind your collection
Nanki Papneja: 'Chrysalis' draws inspiration from a state of bloom that comes after the storm. It emphasises on the very state of optimism and positivity, when the reset button has been pushed and everything has started afresh. Intricate motifs inspired by the Mughal gardens of the world serve as the core of this collection. The ancient architecture is given a contemporary update that emboldens the design, structure and patterns in each garment. Each creation is a dazzling interplay of softer pastels and innovative silhouettes where new forms and shapes are fused with traditional methods of construction.
2. What are some of the silhouettes and embroidery styles you have used in your latest collection?
Nanki Papneja: Classic cuts combined with sharp tailoring and attention to finer details have always been the label's core philosophy. With this collection, prints constructed from floral motifs inspired by mughal architecture, bring an ornamental quality with stylised skill. Embroideries in a variety of mediums like rexine and hand cut floral borders, echo the elements borrowed from the Mughal era.
3. Pastels and florals are ruling the Indian fashion scene. What makes this combination so timeless?
Florals and pastels are a classic combination. Whether one is looking for a stellar day-to-evening outfit, or a beachy summer vacay look, this pairing is the way to go.
4. You're creating silhouettes for the modern Indian woman. What is the vision behind your muse and why?
Nanki Papneja: Limerick by Abirr n' Nanki celebrates the dynamism of prints and the birth of creation as it wonderfully entwines with patterns and embroideries. While drapes come naturally to most, our designs pay attention to detail with classic silhouettes, sharp tailoring, and vibrant colours. We design for the women who don't just love passionately, but fiercely, who see the immaculate in the obvious, who treasure the incomprehensible.
5. What are certain trends that you'd love to see on brides this season?
Nanki Papneja: Simpler, fresher, easier to wear silhouettes over the excessively embroidered bridal wear is something that I would love to see on brides this season.
Ditch your traditional wear with dainty florals for the festive season this year.
