Grandmothers, what would we do without them? From spoiling us rotten to regaling us with bedtime stories, they've shaped our lives in so many ways. When we grew a little older, their influence found its way into our beauty routines; with oil massages and face packs being a few ways in which that happened. We spoke to a bunch of women to find out the treasured skin care secret their grandmother had passed down to them and here is what we found out!
Anusree Menon, Assistant brand manager, Idea Cellular
"My grandmother was a fervent believer in the goodness of coconut oil. Although there were very few of her beauty secrets that I followed diligently, this was one of them. I apply pure coconut oil over my face and body (a thin layer so it doesn't get sticky!), let it soak for a bit and wash it off. There's nothing like it to get baby soft skin!"

"I spent a large chunk of my school life playing hockey, which meant that I came home all tanned and sunburned. Thankfully, my grandmother was a staunch supporter of chickpea paste so I used to make a mixture of it with turmeric and yogurt to get rid of my skin dullness."
Sasha Sharma, Founder & Editor-in-chief, Hoture
"Both, my grandmother and mother always relied on trusted home remedies for healthy skin. One of them is a saffron and honey face pack, which I religiously apply every week. Combine the two ingredients into a paste, apply it on your face, leave it for 15 minutes and wash it off with cold water. It does a multitude of things for my skin from leaving it glowing to getting rid of blemishes."

"One of the most important lessons my grandmother taught me was to be wise and moisturise. Today, in the sticky humidity or harsh air conditioning, that's one thing I've never forgotten. While they didn't have fancy moisturisers back in the day, my grandmother used milk cream instead. So along with my hydrating moisturiser, some milk cream always works wonders."
Amena Azeez, Blogger, Fashionopolis
"To my grandmother, the holy grail of at home skin care was in multani mitti (fuller's earth), besan (gram flour) and malai (milk cream). She used different combinations on days when her skin felt dry and when it felt oily. Till today, I still use multani mitti on days when my skin feels particularly greasy."
Karabi Talukdar, Social media and PR manager, Pretty Secrets
"Because of my grandmother, I've been using pure rose water as a toner in my skin care routine since I was 12 - it hydrates and calms my skin like no other! Along with that, I also stick to my grandmother's body pack recipe of green moong and raw turmeric pieces for a healthy glow."
