Between commuting to work, sitting at a desk for hours, and then commuting back home, the number of hours we spend just sitting are way more than they need to or should be. Let's not even forget the additional sitting time we add on after we get home to binge watch our favourite show on TV. According to research, those who sit for more than eight hours a day with no physical activity face risks that are similar to the risks posed by obesity and smoking. Doesn't sound too good, does it? Given the lives that most of us lead and the kind of jobs that most people have, spending hours sitting is almost a non-negotiable. However, there is a way to make up for all that sitting, by making sure that you exercise daily. Balancing your hours of sitting with enough physical activity is very important. We understand that you might feel too lazy to wake up in the morning or too tired after an entire day's work to actually get yourself to a gym - but whether or not you like it, it's just something you should do for the sake of your health.

Here are some tips that'll hopefully help you get off that couch and to your workout, every single day.
1. Have a set routine
Getting yourself to workout only seems difficult in the beginning. Once you make a habit out of it, it'll seem like apart of your life - a part that you will soon find difficult to give up. You've got to push yourself a little bit in the beginning to get up and get moving, until it becomes a part of your routine.
In order to make your workout a part of your routine, try and do it at the same time everyday. Whether it's in the a.m before work or in the evening post work - set a fixed time and stick to it. This way your mind will soon begin to recognise that hour as dedicated to physical activity.
2. Map it out as a part of your schedule
Your workout should be a non-negotiable for you. Try and schedule your workout into your day as you would any important meeting. Let your family and friends know that you're unavailable at that time and plan your social outings around your workout time.
3. Prep your workout bag the night before
Whether you're heading for a run in the park or to the gym post work, make sure you have everything you need the night before. Prepping a gym bag when you're rushing for work in the morning feels like a hassle and will give you an excuse to skip your workout. So make sure you have everything before you sleep, including your outfit, a water bottle, a pre-workout snack or anything else you might need.
