The best kind of get-togethers are house parties where the atmosphere is laid back and relaxed. Another plus point? Food and drink is always in plenty. If you're throwing a house party this weekend, instead of going the route of ordering in the usual chicken tikka and potato wedges, why not try making snacks yourself? These three recipes are simple and quick, so that your guests can enjoy a homemade touch at the bash.
1. Greek Skewers
These are vegetarian friendly and low in carbs - perfect for the dieters.
Ingredients:
Two cucumbers
500 grams feta cheese
One cup pitted olives
One cup cherry tomatoes
Olive oil to taste
Method:
Chop the cucumbers into inch thick pieces horizontally and keep aside. Chop feta cheese into half inch cubes and place aside. Take a single long toothpick or cocktail fork and pierce it first through the cucumber piece, the cheese, the tomato and the olive. Do this for as many servings as needed, place in a tray, drizzle with olive oil and serve.
2. Garlic Bread Popcorn
Popcorn doesn't need to come in the boring butter, cheese and caramel varieties anymore. You can make a couple of bowls of gourmet style garlic bread flavoured popcorn for your guests to munch on.
Ingredients:
Four finely chopped garlic pods
Oregano to taste
Thyme to taste
Salt to taste
Salted Butter
Half cup chopped parsley
Four cups of popcorn kernels
Method:
In a pressure cooker on a medium flame, place a few tablespoons of butter with the popcorn kernels and cover with a small opening for the popping to begin. In a separate pan, add a few tablespoons of butter and cook with garlic until softened slightly. To this, add chopped parsley and then oregano and thyme to taste. Once all kernels have popped, drizzle the garlic butter mixture and a sprinkling of thyme and salt over. Toss so that it is evenly distributed and serve in a large bowl.
3. Smoked Salmon Bites
No combination as divine (and easy!) as smoked salmon and cream cheese.
Ingredients:
One pack of hard toasted bread
500 grams of cream cheese
Two teaspoons of sesame seeds
500 grams smoked salmon
Two tablespoons dill
Method:
Slice the toasted bread into bite sized triangles that make a comfortable single serving. On it, apply a generous smear of cream cheese. Slice the smoked salmon finely and layer a few pieces over the cream cheese. Finally, chop the dill leaves and sprinkle it on top.
