Now, a lot of us might be missing the the goddess gene but the great thing is that a month or so after she put the 'super' back in supermodel, 51-year-old Cindy Crawford shared a bit of surprisingly desi wisdom with us. The secret to her keeping the doctor away is not an apple a day but, wait for it, an amla. And yes, she wrote amla in her Instagram post, not Indian gooseberry.
Many of us back home have benefitted from amla for years (at least, those of us who paid attention to our mothers and grandmothers' advice). Known for its anti-ageing properties, amla is traditionally used in hair and skin care as well eaten raw, pickled or as jam.
A Hollywood plastic surgeon of Indian origin has a range of amla-based products that have introduced the antioxidant-rich fruit to Cindy Crawford and other celebrities abroad. Devotees of amla now include Modern Family star Sofia Vergara, singer Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian.
