A man called Asif Khan, who claims to be a member of Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, has been caught on camera slapping a doctor at a private nursing home in Kolkata. Twice.
Kolkata's medical community is livid and even the ruling Trinamool Congress has condemned the attack on the doctor. But Mr Khan, who was arrested last evening, is already out on bail, granted at the police station.
At the Minto Park clinic on Sunday evening, Asif Khan had reportedly asked to meet the doctor who had treated his father at the clinic late last month. He was apparently upset because his father had been admitted in hospital again hours after he was discharged on Sunday morning.
The doctor Mr Khan sought to meet was not available so another doctor asked to see the patient's papers. At this point Mr Khan slapped the doctor twice. A CCTV camera installed at the nursing home recorded the incident.
Mr Khan is believed to be close to a senior Trinamool leader.
