With 550 Albert Einstein Lookalikes, Students Shoot For World Record

At the India Science Festival, as many as 550 students came dressed as Nobel Laureate Albert Einstein.

New Delhi: At the ongoing India Science Festival, as many as 550 students came dressed as Nobel Laureate Albert Einstein in a bid to make a Guinness World Record of maximum lookalikes of Einstein at a single location.

Even though Albert Einstein never visited India in his lifetime, but six decades later the scientist's following was apparent in the scores of students who dressed themselves up in his characteristic attire complete with a white mane, white moustache and his signature coat and tie.

Despite such events, is it ironical that India has not won a single Nobel Prize in Science after 1930 when CV Raman got the honour?  Dr Harsh Vardhan, Minister for Science and Technology, who attended the event, said, "To win big awards our scientists need to develop more of a killer instinct from this stage. We need to develop in these students a passion for science. When that happens in the next 20 to 40 years one may see more Sir C V Ramans in India and that is what we are doing by such efforts to inculcate a deep passion to pursue science as a worthwhile career."

The earlier 2015 Guinness Record of the largest gathering of people dressed as Albert Einstein is held by a school in California where 304 students participated in a similar event. If all goes well this effort would make a new world record.
