The TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has begun what he describes as an indefinite hunger strike in Delhi to protest against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. While his political opponents accuse him of doublespeak, his party says he is fighting to protect Seemandhra's interests. Mr Naidu addressed a press conference today.
Highlights:- Democracy means problems must be discussed and solutions found, the ruling Congress has forgotten this.
- They are not finding solutions but creating problems.
- One has to balance competing interests.
- Common man in Seemandhra has lost confidence in government and political parties.
- Congress has put self-interests over common interests - they wanted more seats, more votes and they're willing to sacrifice anything
- Cong wanted to align with TRS by giving Telangana, and align with Jagan Mohan's YSR Congress. They've supported the bail and promised him (Jagan) that they'd dilute the cases against him.
- YSR Congress will win seats in Seemandhra and after elections support the Congress. Is this a way of doing politics?
- What is happening in Andhra Pradesh? There is chaos, they've lost confidence in elected representatives.
- People should have faith in political parties, otherwise democracy can't survive.
- Congress wanted to get political advantage, this reflects opportunism.
- There is a standstill - immobilismo - I'm using this Italian word since it is more appropriate for Delhi.
