Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh:
The body of 19-year-old Tarishi Jain will be flown to Delhi today. The UC Berkeley student was among the 20 hostages killed in the
Dhaka attack. Her funeral will be conducted in Gurgaon.
Tarishi's family in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad had hoped to see her soon. "She was supposed to come down from Dhaka to meet us. Now we'll only meet her at the funeral", said Tarushi's Aunt Bhavna Jain.
She was among the 18 foreigners, carefully sifted from the locals at a cafe in Dhaka's high-security zone and murdered. Six gunmen were killed in a gunfight with security forces and one was captured alive to end a 11-hour siege on Saturday.
Recounting the horrors of the night, her uncle Rajiv Jain said they watched TV all night but they received no news as the live coverage was stopped.
"I spoke to my brother in the morning and he said that he had no hope of Tarishi being alive after a message from her at night", Mr Jain told NDTV.
Tarishi's cousin Saloni reached out to the Indian authorities to seek help. "When we received the news, I was helpless and tweeted to Sushma Swaraj to help my sister", she said.
She was extremely talented and a gold-medalist badminton player, the family said, as they talked of Tarishi's accomplishments and grieved their loss at their family home in Firozabad.
