Police Sends Gujarat BJP Lawmaker's 'Assault' Video For Forensic Tests

Vitthal Radadiya has been at the centre of several controversies earlier.

Ahmedabad: Gujarat police today said they have sent a video purportedly showing BJP lawmaker from Porbandar Vitthal Radadiya beating up an elderly man at a religious function, to a forensic laboratory.

"We have started a probe into the video showing Radadiya kicking the man at a religious function at Jamkandorna in Rajkot district," Superintendent of police (Rajkot rural) Antarip Sud told Press Trust of India.

The video had gone viral on the social media. "We have initiated investigation. The video has been sent for forensic examination, and we expect the report soon. Based on report we will be able to take further action," Mr Sud said.

"A police team has also been sent to the site where the event was held so that we could know what exactly happened," he said.

However, Mr Radadiya has denied kicking the person. The lawmaker said the man seen in the video was at a religious function where he (the elderly man) was "trying to spread superstition".

Yesterday, the Jamkandorna police had said they had not received any complaint regarding the incident.

Mr Radadiya was earlier caught up in a controversy in 2012 when a video showing him threatening the toll-booth staff at Karjan near Vadodara with a gun in his hand went viral.

At that time he was with the Congress.
