New Delhi: Congress today said Pakistan's refusal to invite the Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Union (CPU) conference in Islamabad was nothing but dramatics and an attempt to insult "Indian sovereignty".

India decided to boycott the conference, to be held in Islamabad from September 30 to October 8, after the move by Pakistan which maintained that Jammu and Kashmir was a "disputed" territory.

"Pakistan does these purely cheap political tactics, stuntbazi. I would call it dramatics to try and insult Indian sovereignty, integrity. A meeting or a seminar is a very small thing," Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.

Supporting the government's decision to boycott the conference, he said the neighbouring country is playing "cheap games".

"I do not think any country can play with India's sovereignty and integrity and I think therefore we have no reason to participate with Pakistan, which is highly insecure  fragmented and is imploding... and yet wants to play such cheap games," he said.
