It was rumoured that Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, may step into the political spotlight with a debut in the 2025 elections, but the speculations were put to rest after he was not given any ticket.

Had he contested, Nishant would have joined the ranks of Bihar's prominent political heirs, like RJD's Tejashwi Yadav, son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, and LJP's Chirag Paswan, son of Ram Vilas Paswan.

Who Is Nishant Kumar?

  1. Nishant Kumar, born on July 20, 1975, in Bihar, is the son of Nitish Kumar and Manju Sinha. He is their only child. His mother died in 2007 of acute pneumonia. Nishant spent his early years in Bihar and did his schooling from St. Karen's in Patna before moving to Manava Bharati India International School, Mussoorie. He then attended the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, where he graduated in software engineering.
  2. In 2017, Nishant Kumar had said that he had no desire to enter politics, preferring instead to go on a spiritual path. He told reporters, "I have neither interest in politics nor any knowledge about this field. My first love is spiritualism, and as of now, I am proceeding on the path of spiritualism."
  3. In January this year, Nishant Kumar, long out of the public eye, appeared at a tribute event for freedom fighters in Bakhtiyarpur and urged support for his father and the JD-U. He later appeared at the Holi Milan ceremony with senior party leaders and, in June, joined his father to inaugurate the Bakhtiyarpur riverfront, recalling his childhood memories of the town.
  4. Of late, Nishant has reportedly been closely involved in key government decisions and political developments, while also studying the works of socialist icons like Rammanohar Lohia and Jayaprakash Narayan.
  5. Nishant Kumar's net worth is estimated at Rs 3.61 crore, comprising Rs 1.63 crore in movable assets and Rs 1.98 crore in immovable assets, which were transferred to him by his mother, news agency PTI reported. The funds included her retirement benefits.
