The engine of a goods train was damaged and the engine driver and his assistant were injured in a landmine blast set off by Maoists on rail tracks between Jhargram and Khatkura stations near the Bengal border.

The attack, which took place at around 2 am on Thursday, has disrupted train traffic on both the up and the down lines as overhead wires snapped. The injured men have been taken to hospital.

Three trains which have been diverted so far are Ahmedabad Express (from Howrah), Uttakal Express (Bhubaneshwar - Delhi) and Purushottam Express (from Puri to Delhi).
Some trains to Howrah are stranded at various stations. These include the Bombay Mail, Ranchi Express and Koraput Express.

Railway officers and joint forces have reached the spot to inspect the blast site and they expect the up traffic to be restored by 8.30am and the down traffic by 10 am.

This attack comes after Monday's attack on a bus in Dantewada in Chhattisgarh in which 31 people including women, children and security men were killed. (Read & Watch: Naxals attack bus in Dantewada, 31 dead)
