Navy recruitment scam: CBI arrests Commander Saini for leaking papers

Mumbai: CBI has arrested Naval commander with INS Angre, R C Saini, for his alleged involvement in the defence examination paper leak case.

Saini was arrested last evening and would be produced before a special CBI court later on Wednesday, a senior CBI official said.

According to CBI, Saini was involved in the setting of the question paper and was allegedly hand in gloves with the four other arrested accused.

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the CBI had on September 26 arrested four persons, including two administrative officers of Western and Eastern Naval Command, for allegedly leaking the question papers of the lower division clerk examinations to over 130 candidates.

The four accused are - R C Naik and D S Murthi - both administrative officers in Western and Eastern Naval Commands respectively, Rambhir Singh Rawat - a former sailor and owner of Manasa International Defence recruitment agency in Vishakapatnam and Hyderabad-based teacher Hoshiyar Singh.

Rawat had allegedly copied the question paper in his pen drive from Atharva Consultancy and Allied Services printing press in Pune, where the paper was to be printed. The printing press owner B S Thakur died of heart attack two days back when CBI officials had gone to question him.

After procuring the question paper, Rawat and Hoshiyar brought 134 candidates from Vishakapatnam to United Lodge in south Mumbai where they were given practical training on the questions and on how to answer them. The accused had allegedly received Rs 15,000 from each of the candidate.
