If the tragedy of death isn't enough to cope with, even survivors are struggling to be reunited with their loved ones. In a heartrending story of a two-year-old child, who lost his father yesterday and is recovering at a separate hospital, is now waiting to undergo a DNA test to be sent back to his mother.

The child was alone, unidentified and until yesterday uncared for, then the little boy caught Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya's eye and is now getting special care.

"We have some clothings for the baby and we have been giving him Cerelac and Horlicks. The CT Scan on the baby has been done free of cost," said Dr Shankhs Ghosh.

On Saturday morning, Anwar Ali landed up at the hospital from Bihar and identified the baby as Sameer Ali, his nephew.

After the accident, Sameer and his father Haidar Ali were brought to a West Midnapore hospital and his mother Yasmeen Khatoon was airlifted to Kharagpur.

Haidar died soon after leaving the child alone.

"When we came to the hospital we identified the baby, he was ours. To give the baby to us, the authorities are demanding a DNA test," said Anwar Ali, brother of Haidar Ali.

But even after all the trauma, the baby can't be with his mother.

Until the family proves their relationship, the hospital will not hand over the baby. So, now the baby and the mother will undergo a DNA test.

"My baby is admitted in another hospital. About 50 people had come to claim him as their own. But my son does not go to strangers," said Yameen.

Lying on a hospital bed Yasmeen says, "I was told that my son is alive and we trying to give them proof that he is our child. We know that the test has to be done to establish that he is my son."

But what Yasmeen doesn't know yet is that her husband is no longer alive.

"We still haven't told her that Haider is dead because she is still very fragile. And her condition is still not safe," said Sajjad, Yasmeen's brother.

The family was torn apart by the incident and the only hope for Yasmeen to be reunited with her son is the DNA test. That should conclusively prove their relationship.
