Jaya didn't complain about coverage of Rekha's oath: Rajya Sabha statement

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha has denied reports that Jaya Bachchan has complained to Chairman of the House Hamid Ansari about cameras cutting to her when actor Rekha took her oath as an MP on Tuesday.

On Wednesday evening, there were reports that a group of parliamentary members had objected to the coverage. Rajiv Shukla of the Congress, according to news agency ANI, confirmed that Mrs Bachchan had protested. The press release from the Rajya Sabha said that the coverage of the House was handled by state-run Doordarshan.

Rekha has been nominated to the Upper House by the government along with sports icon Sachin Tendulkar and industrialist Anu Aga.

While Rekha, in a gold-coloured sari, took her oath yesterday, the camera showed Mrs Bachchan watching the proceedings. In the late 70s, Bollywood magazines like Stardust regularly alleged that Rekha was romantically involved with Amitabh Bachchan.
