Delhi judge, driver beaten up on road by motorcyclists

New Delhi: Three judges traveling together in a car in South Delhi on Thursday, were attacked, along with their driver, after their vehicle hit a motorcycle.

Four bikers assaulted them. Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Garg was hit on the head with stones and was hospitalised along with Chaman Lal, the driver of the car, who was also injured.

The other two judges, Additional Sessions Judges Inderjit Singh and M K Nagpal, were not hurt. The judges are from the Saket District Court.

The motorcyclists abandoned their bikes and ran away from the scene of the accident. The police arrested two people in connection with the incident and have registered a case of attempt to murder.

Meanwhile, lawyers at the Saket district court complex have called for strike today to protest the attack on the judges. (Read)

The president of the Saket Court Bar Association, Madan Lal, said he had called upon all Delhi advocates to stay away from work if police do not take proper action in the case. He also said that such criminal attacks on judges would not be tolerated.
