CRPF DG rushes to Chhattisgarh

New Delhi:

CRPF Director General A S Gill rushed to Chhattisgarh on Saturday to review security situation in the state which has witnessed a surge in Naxal activities over the past week with Lok Sabha polls just around the corner.

Gill rushed to Hyderabad from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu from where he is currently on his way to Raipur.

From Raipur, he is scheduled to take a helicopter to Dantewada, where ten personnel of the force including a Deputy Commandant were killed yesterday after left wing extremists ambushed a security party returning after inspecting a polling station in Minta village.

Eleven members of the CRPF team were also injured in the attack by nearly 150 armed naxalites.

"The Director General is on his way to Dantewada to take stock of the situation. He would also be meeting top government officials of the state," CRPF spokesperson said.

The DG, who will look into the details of Friday's attack, will also review the security situation for the forthcoming polls as the naxalites have given call for its boycott.

Incidentally, Gill, who took over the reigns of the force in March, had cited Chhattisgarh as a priority before embarking on a tour of operational bases elsewhere.
