Coronavirus Highlights: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday appealed to hospitals to counsel their COVID-19 patients to donate plasma after 14 days of recovery from the disease, noting that the number of donors is yet to pick pace. As the city's coronavirus tally neared the one-lakh mark, the chief minister said there is no need to worry about the figure as around 72,000 people have already recovered from the virus. 

India has overtaken Russia as the third worst-hit country by coronavirus after the total number of cases neared seven lakh. The Union Health Ministry has reported 24,248 cases and 425 deaths in the last 24 hours. The fresh cases and deaths have pushed the total cases in the country to 6,97,413 and the death count to 19,693. The recovery rate stands at 60.85 per cent, with  4,24,433 patients across the country having recovering from the highly contagious disease.

India has now taken the third spot in the list of nations worst hit by coronavirus. The country logged more than 6.9 lakh cases on Sunday evening, according to data from state governments, overtaking Russia, which had 6.8 lakh as per America's Johns Hopkins University (JHU). India is now preceded only by Brazil and the US. Brazil has over 15 lakh cases and the US has more than 28 lakh.

425 COVID-19 Deaths In 24 Hours In India, Higher Than US
India recorded 425 deaths coronavirus-linked deaths in the previous 24 hours, Health Ministry data showed Monday morning. Only one country recorded more - Brazil with 602.

The United States, which is the country worst affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with nearly 29 lakh infections, was third on that list with 271 deaths.

Overall India has reported 19,693 COVID-19-related deaths, compared to 64,867 by Brazil and 1,29,947 by the United States.

India's fatality rate - number of deaths as a percentage of total cases - was 2.8 per cent this morning. This compares well to 3 per cent a week ago and 3.2 per cent two weeks ago. Read

Amid Coronavirus Crisis, US To Withdraw Visas For Foreign Students Whose Classes Move Online
The United States said Monday it would not allow foreign students to remain in the country if all of their classes are moved online in the fall because of the coronavirus crisis.

"Nonimmigrant F-1 and M-1 students attending schools operating entirely online may not take a full online course load and remain in the United States," US Immigration and Custom Enforcement said in a statement.

"Active students currently in the United States enrolled in such programs must depart the country or take other measures, such as transferring to a school with in-person instruction to remain in lawful status," ICE said. Read More

Coronavirus News: Over 250 Assam Cops Affected By Coronavirus, 80% From Guwahati
At least 256 personnel in Assam police have tested positive for COVID-19 so far and of them, 50 have recovered, Assam Police's ADGP (Law and Order) GP Singh said in a tweet on Monday.
According to Mr Singh, another 932 personnel have been placed under quarantine as of Sunday, comprising 145 from districts and 787 from battalions. 80 percent of those who got either infected or quarantined are from the Guwahati City police, the official added.

"Till 6th July, 256 Assam police personnel have tested Covid positive out of whom 50 have recovered, 932 are under quarantine," Mr Singh tweeted.

The COVID-19 situation has turned grim in Assam with the state reporting its biggest ever single day spike on Saturday. With 1,202 new cases, Assam's COVID-19 tally has crossed 11,000-mark. Trains From 3 Cities To Kolkata Reduced To Once A Week Over COVID-19
With coronavirus cases showing no signs of abating in the state, West Bengal has persuaded Indian Railways to reduce the frequency of trains arriving from Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. This move comes days after flights from six cities with "high prevalence" of the deadly virus were stopped from landing in Kolkata.

From July 10, special trains coming to Kolkata from the three metros will be reduced to one each. The Delhi-Howrah train that ran four days a week will now run only once a week. So will another Delhi-Howrah train which ran three days a week. Read

Tamil Nadu Tally Touches Nearly 1.15 Lakh Cases, Daliy Count Dips
The COVID-19 tally in Tamil Nadu touched nearly 1.15 lakh on Monday as the daily count witnessed a slide with 3,827 fresh cases after posting over 4,000 new infections in the past four days.

As many as 61 people died of the virus and the count stood at 1,571, a health department bulletin said.

From July 2 to 5, Tamil Nadu posted 4,000 plus cases every day and Monday is the first day of less than 4,000 infections after a four day gap.

On July 1, the state recorded 3,882 cases and on June 30, it was 3,943.

The total number of people who have tested positive till date is 1,14,978, of which Chennai accounted for 70,017, news agency PTI reported.

Delhi COVID Hospital Helpline Numbers Available In 'Corona App': Arvind Kejriwal
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that authorised helpline numbers of all COVID hospitals in the city are being reflected in the "Delhi Corona" mobile application, an official statement said on Monday.

The development comes after the Delhi government received many complaints from citizens that helpline numbers of these hospitals remained unreachable most of the time, it said.

Taking cognisance of the matter, Mr Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia, who is also handling the health portfolio, directed all COVID hospitals of the city to make authorised helpline numbers.

"All these hospitals have come out with 24*7 available authorised helpline numbers and the numbers are available in the Delhi Corona app which was developed and launched by the Delhi government to provide COVID-19 pandemic related information," the statement said.

Record 22 Fatalities Push COVID-19 Death Count In West Bengal To 779
The death count due to COVID-19 in West Bengal mounted to 779 on Monday with highest one-day spike of 22 fatalities, the health department said.

As many as 861 people have tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the infection tally in the state to 22,987, the department said in its bulletin.

The number of active patients rose to 6,973, it said.

"The 22 people died due to comorbidities and COVID-19 in these cases was incidental," the department said.

A total of 524 people have been discharged from different hospitals since Sunday evening.

During the same period, 10,919 samples have been examined for COVID-19, the bulletin added, news agency PTI reported.

Mumbai COVID-19 cases cross 85,000 mark; 39 more die

The number of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai spiked by 1,201 on Monday, taking the total count to 85,326, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. 

With 39 more patients succumbing to the viral infection, the death toll has risen to 4,935, it said. 
A total of 1,269 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the number of the recovered cases to 57,152, the BMC said in a release. 

Mumbai now has 23,249 active cases. A total of 762 new suspected cases have been admitted in hospitals.

183 COVID-19 cases found in Ahmedabad; 7 die, 240 discharged

The number of coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad rose to 22,075 on Monday with the addition of 183 new infections, the state health department said.

With the death of seven more COVID-19 patients, 1,491 have died in the district, it said.

As many as 240 patients were discharged in the district, raising the number of recovered people here to 17,069, it said.

Telangana Governor calls CS, health official to discuss COVID-19

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday said she has called the state Chief Secretary and a top Health department official to discuss the COVID-19 situation in the state.

The governor also said she would interact with representatives of private hospitals on COVID-19 management and public grievances on availability of beds, billing and other aspects on Tuesday.

The move comes against the backdrop of allegations that some private hospitals were seeking ''exorbitant'' fees from coronovirus patients.

House-to-house testing in Guwahati after jump in COVID-19 cases: Assam health minister

With Guwahati witnessing a rapid increase in coronavirus cases, the Assam government will start house-to-house testing in the state capital from Tuesday, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said.

Guwahati has reported a total of 3,736 COVID-19 cases so far while 3,293 people tested positive in the last 12 days, since June 24. Mr Sarma had on Sunday indicated that community transmission had begun in the city.

A two-week lockdown from June 28 to July 12 is underway in Kamrup Metropolitan district which primarily comprises the capital city.

"In a first of its kind initiative on mass testing in Assam, Health Dept shall carry out house-to-house #Covid tests in Ward No 2 (Pandu area) of Guwahati Municipality, starting Tuesday (July 7). We target to complete 3000 tests in the Ward in two days," Mr Sarma tweeted on Monday.

The number of coronavirus in Delhi crossed the 1 lakh mark on Monday evening. With 1,379 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, the total COVID-19 count of the capital stood at 1,00,823.

749 patients recovered from the disease on Monday, taking the total to 72,088. 48 people have died in the last 24 hours, raising the count to 3,115. There are now 25,620 active cases in the city.

Chhattisgarh: 60 Cops Quarantined After Rape Accused Tests Positive
Sixty policemen were quarantined in Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh after a rape accused they brought from Karnataka was detected with COVID-19 on Monday, an official said.

The Civil Lines police station has been sealed and declared a containment zone, while swab samples of all the personnel have been sent for testing, Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal said.

"A 28-year-old man was arrested from Mysore by a team of four policemen from Civil Lines police station after a woman filed a complaint of sexual assault last month. The accused, who claims to work at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre's Mysore unit, was brought here on July 4," he said.

He was sent in judicial remand and jail authorities have been alerted after his reports returned positive, the SP added, news agency PTI reported.

Strict Lockdown In Aurangabad From July 10 To 18
A lockdown with a slew of restrictions will be imposed in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra from July 10 to curb the rising cases of coronavirus, officials said on Monday.

This phase of the lockdown will be in force for nine days and cover certain industries, and only essential services will be allowed to operate during this period, they said.

The decision was taken keeping in view demand by citizens and following a meeting with various stakeholders held in the backdrop of growing COVID-19 cases in the central Maharashtra district, collector Uday Choudhari told reporters.

He said, "A lockdown will be enforced in Aurangabad between July 10 and 18. It will be a strict lockdown."

Mr Choudhari said, "A demand was raised by common public for lockdown but the decision was taken unanimously after a meeting with various stakeholders like industries, traders and others along with administration officials.

"Industries shall remain closed in this period. But the administration will decide a strategy to ensure continuous operation of the pharmaceutical industry and some other units during the lockdown period."

Asked about the lockdown, municipal commissioner Astik Kumar Pandey said, "Only milk outlets will be allowed to remain open during this period...rest every establishment will be shut news agency PTI reported.

New State-Run Hospital In Hyderabd Ready To Serve COVID-19 Patients
The Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) here, a sports facility which has been converted into a COVID-19 hospital by the state government, is ready to serve patients, Health Minister E Rajender said on Monday.

He also posted a video about the facilities in the hospital.

"TIMS is ready to serve #COVID19 patients," the minister tweeted.

According to him, the bed capacity of the hospital is 1,224 and oxygen facility has been provided for 1,000 beds.

The government has recruited staff to work in the hospital, he had said recently.

Outpatient services at the hospital had already started.

Meanwhile, official sources shared a video of a man who has been admitted to a hospital after he sought the ministers help over the phone at midnight.

He had difficulty in breathing.

The man said Rajender answered his call and directed his PA to help him and that he was admitted to a hospital.

Rajender saved his life and he would be ever indebted to him, the man added, news agency PTI reported.

Over 20 Police Stations Shut In Bengaluru As COVID-19 Cases Among Personnel Rise
As COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Karnataka, more than 20 police stations were sealed in Bengaluru after many policemen tested positive for novel coronavirus.

"Since the last few weeks, the number of COVID-19 cases in the police department has increased as many of the policemen have tested positive, so that''s the reason why the police have taken a decision to close police stations," Bengaluru Commissioner of police Bhaskar Rao said.

He added, "However, people can lodge their complaints and other issues can be solved in help desks launched outside premises of the police station. Most of the areas where positive cases found in the police station are been sealed down for the safety of the people and sanitised them."

However, some of the police stations would be functional from outside the premises.

Commercial Street, Cottonpete, Chickepete, KG Halli traffic police station are among the few stations closed due to scare of the coronavirus spread after some policemen tested positive in particular stations.

Mr Rao further said that the traffic police, civil police along with home guards have been given safety gloves, face masks, and sanitizers along with face covers by the department of police.

According to the Union Health Ministry, 23,474 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the state, as of Monday, news agency ANI reported.
