Coronavirus Cases in India: This is the 15th day when India reported less than 50,000 cases.

India's COVID-19 caseload went past 91 lakh with 44,059 coronavirus infections being reported in a day, while the recoveries surged to 85,62,641, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 91,39,865, while the deaths climbed to 1,33,738 with 511 new fatalities including 121 from Delhi alone, the data updated at 8 am showed. The number of active cases remained below 5 lakh for the thirteenth consecutive day. There are 4,43,486 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country as on date which comprises 4.85 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

The national recovery rate was recorded 93.68 per cent, while the COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.46 per cent. 

According to the ICMR, over 13.25 crore samples have been tested up to November 22 with 8,49,596 samples being tested on Sunday.

The 511 new fatalities include 121 from Delhi, 50 from Maharashtra, 49 from West Bengal, 35 from Uttar Pradesh, 27 from Kerala and 25 from Haryana.

Coronavirus news: Delhi records 121 deaths, 4,454 fresh cases
Delhi recorded 4,454 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday and a positivity rate of 11.94 per cent while 121 more fatalities pushed the death count to 8,512, authorities said.

These relatively low number of fresh cases came out of the 37,307 tests conducted on Sunday, including 18,046 RT-PCR tests, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.

Coronavirus news: Chhattisgarh adds 2,061 COVID-19 cases; recoveries top 2 lakh

Chhattisgarh on Monday reported 2,061 fresh COVID-19 cases and 14 fatalities, taking the tally to 2,25,497 and the count to 2,746, a health official said. The number of recoveries crossed the two lakh-mark and rose to 2,00,825 after 105 patients were discharged from hospitals, while 1,182 others completed their home isolation period during the day, PTI reported.

Cops To Attend Weddings In Gurugram To Check COVID-19 Spread
Wedding ceremonies in Haryana's Gurugram will now be host to police officials as well after authorities made it mandatory to keep a check on COVID-19 protocols at large gatherings amid the pandemic.

According to an order issued by Gurugram police commissioner KK Rao, the cops can attend any marriage events in the city without invitation and issue fines to those not wearing masks. They will also keep a check on guests and urge them to follow guidelines like social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The move comes amid a rise in COVID-19 cases in Haryana. On Monday, the state reported 2,663 new cases taking the caseload to 2,19,963 while 28 deaths pushed the fatality count to 2,216. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Tuesday chair a virtual meeting with the chief ministers of the eight worst Covid-hit states to review the coronavirus situation, sources say. The PM is expected to discuss with the states the cause for a surge in daily Covid numbers and the countermeasures planned to stem virus growth, sources added.

PM Modi's Covid review meeting, scheduled to start at 10:30 AM, will be conducted in two parts, sources said. In the first leg, he will interact with the chief ministers of the eight worst-affected states and Union Territories; in the second, he will hold a discussion with the chief ministers and L-G's of all the states and UTs on vaccine delivery, sources say.

The primary focus of the review meeting is likely to be the development of a mechanism for efficient delivery of vaccine and identification of priority beneficiaries, sources said.

Himachal Pradesh Imposes Night Curfew After Entire Village Tests Positive
The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to impose restrictions on gatherings and movement, including night curfew till December 15, in view of rising COVID-19 infections and deaths in the state.

On Monday, the Himachal Pradesh cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, decided to impose a night curfew in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu and Kangra districts from 8 pm to 6 am for everyone barring those involved in discharging essential services.

Schools have been directed to remain closed till December 31, but online classes would start from November 26. In view of the pandemic, students of classes 1 to 4, and classes 6 and 7, would be promoted as per provision of the Right to Education Act-2009.

Andhra reports 545 fresh COVID-19 cases, 10 deaths

Andhra Pradesh reported 545 fresh cases from 47,130 sample tests in 24 hours ending 9 am on Monday. This is by far the lowest number of daily cases reported in the state after a gap of close to five months.

While an average 70,000 samples were tested in weekdays, the number is far lesser on Sundays, which results in lower addition of new coronavirus cases. The gross COVID-19 positives stood at 8,62,758. After 1,390 got cured in 24 hours, the total recoveries touched 8,42,416.

Oxford Vaccine Can Be 90% Effective
Britain's AstraZeneca said on Monday its vaccine for the novel coronavirus could be around 90% effective without any serious side effects, giving the world another important tool to halt the COVID-19 pandemic. The combined analysis from both dosing regimens resulted in an average efficacy of 70%.

The vaccine developed by Oxford University was 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 when it was administered as a half dose followed by a full dose at least one month apart, according to data from the late-stage trials in Britain and Brazil.

No serious safety events related to the vaccine have been confirmed and it was well tolerated across both dosing regimens, it said.

Karnataka Schools To Stay Closed Till December End: BS Yediyurappa
The Karnataka government has decided to keep the state's schools and pre-university, or PU colleges - equivalent to classes 11 and 12 - closed at least till December end in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

"According to the opinion of education experts, we should not start any classes in schools or PU colleges till December end, and a decision should be taken after that. In the few engineering colleges that had resumed classes the attendance is under 5 per cent. So, we will meet against in December-end and take an appropriate decision at that time according to the (coronavirus) situation," Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said.

The decision to not reopen any schools and PU colleges in Karnataka was taken at a meeting where Mr Yediyurappa and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar met government officials from the education department on Monday.

The meeting was scheduled after taking suggestions from parents, health committee officials and educational experts. Read

Coronavirus updates: Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma tests positive for COVID-19

Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted on Monday.

"Wishing my ministerial colleague, Dr Raghu Sharma Ji speedy recovery from COVID-19. May he gets well soon," Mr Gehlot wrote on Twitter.

Mr Sharma also requested the people who recently came in his contact, to get themselves tested.

"On getting the initial symptoms of COVID-19, I got myself checked and tested positive. I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the last few days, to please isolate yourself and get yourself tested," he informed via a tweet.

Covid-19 LIVE Updates: Karnataka COVID-19 panel against reopening schools in December

The Technical Advisory Committee for COVID-19 in Karnataka has recommended to the state government not to reopen schools in December ahead of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's a key meeting on Monday to take a call on the matter.

"After extensive deliberations it was unanimously resolve not to reopen the schools in December, proceedings of the COVID-19 52nd Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting held on Sunday said.

The COVID-19 scenario shall be reviewed in the last week of December to consider reopening of schools at an appropriate time subsequently, it said, adding that this recommendation was for the consideration of the government in the larger public interest of the state.

Germany's COVID-19 caseload tops 9,29,133

Germany reported 10,864 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 9,29,133, said the federal government agency for disease control and prevention on Monday.

Ninety more deaths were reported, taking the national deaths to 14,112, the Robert Koch Institute said.

Germany entered a partial lockdown in November in reaction to the second COVID-19 wave and rising infection numbers.

Jharkhand reports 137 fresh COVID-19 cases, 5 more fatalities

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally climbed to 1,07,469 on Monday, after 137 people tested positive for the virus, a health department official said. 

Two deaths were reported from Ranchi district and one each from Hazaribagh, Dhanbad and Bokaro, the official said. Ranchi district reported the highest number of new cases at 77, followed by Garhwa (12) and Bokaro (7), he said. 

The state now has 2,289 active coronavirus cases, while 1,04,229 people have been cured of the disease so far, the official said. Jharkhand has tested 10,492 samples for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, he added.
