Patna: A 16-year-old girl is fighting for her life at a hospital in Patna after she was gang-raped allegedly by six men, and thrown off a moving train, in south Bihar's Lakhisarai district. The one person arrested in the case is a minor, the police say. The rest are absconding.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said strong action will be taken against the accused. "It is a heinous crime. Necessary action is being taken and the accused cannot be spared," he said.
The men had apparently kidnapped the Class 10 student when she had left her house to meet a friend on Friday evening, the police said. She was gang-raped, before being forced into a train from the local station.
She was found on the tracks the next morning, injured, bleeding and unconscious.
The family has said the girl had been thrown off the train - a claim the police have denied. The local police said she has jumped off the train when she saw her family members searching for her at the station.
Later, when the girl was taken to the government-run Patna Medical College, there was a delay of six hours in admitting her, the family said. Admitting the delay, the doctors said there was a shortage of beds.
A medical examination has confirmed rape. Her condition, the doctors said, is deteriorating.
