Battered baby goes through first surgery. Help her family.

Jaipur: A week after her drunk father bit off parts of her nose and lips, a five-month-old baby girl has gone through the first of two major plastic surgeries to reconstruct her face.

Doctors say the 45-minute operation today in Jaipur was successful.The second surgery should take place place a month from now.

After her husband, allegedly an alcoholic who often abused her, attacked her younger daughter on the night of January 26, the woman who was married to him at 14 filed a police case.  He was arrested and her furious in-laws threw her out of the home they shared.

The woman and her two daughters, originally from Bikaner, 400 kms from Jaipur, are being looked after by her 70- year-old father and members of the Rajasthan Child Rights Commission.  

The cost of the baby's plastic surgery will be covered by the government.  But she has no home to return to after she leaves hospital.
