Khagaria (Bihar):
Far away from Kerala, another boat tragedy was reported from Bihar. Sixty people, 34 of them children, died after a country made boat carrying 150 people capsized in the Baghmati river in the Khagaria district on Monday night.
The boat was overloaded, with people returning to their villages across the river from a local Dusshera fair.
Search and rescue operations have been on since Monday night, and now the episode has acquired a political tone.
"The Chief Minister should have visited the area and the families of those dead should be given Rs 10 lakh each," RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav said.
But no amount of money may be enough for these people for whom festivities have turned into immense grief.
