Amit Shah bail plea: Gujarat court seeks reply from CBI
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has sought reply from CBI and the state government on the bail application filed by former minister Amit Shah. Shah has been arrested by the investigating agency in Soharabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

Justice R H Shukla issued notices to CBI and state government asking them to file their replies on Shah's bail plea by October 22.

Shah had moved the High Court for bail on Monday after his application was rejected by a special CBI court last week.

Rejecting the bail, Special CBI judge G K Upadhyaya had observed that there was "eye catching" evidence in the form of statements, recorded under CrPc, against Shah and there was likelihood that if the applicant is released on bail, he may misuse his political powers to hamper investigation.

The court had said that letting Shah, a close aide of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, achieves his ulterior goal and could in turn prove to be a dent on the judiciary of the state as well as the nation.

The former minister of state for home was arrested on July 25 in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. Shah has been charged with murder, extortion and kidnapping in the case. He is currently lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail.

Sohrabuddin, an alleged gangster, was killed on the city's outskirts in November 2005 in a staged shoot out by Gujarat and Rajasthan Police. Later, his wife Kauser Bi was also murdered.
