- Wings of an Akasa Air and a SpiceJet plane came in contact on the taxiway at the Delhi airport
- Akasa Air's plane was to operate flight from Delhi to Hyderabad while the SpiceJet plane had arrived from Leh
- No person was injured in the accident and crew were safely disembarked
A SpiceJet plane was taxiing at Delhi airport at around 2:15 pm on Thursday when it hit a stationary Akasa aircraft, resulting in a minor collision that resulted in damage to the two planes. No one was injured in the accident.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in a statement said that the SpiceJet pilots involved in the incident and the concerned Air Traffic Control officer have been de-rostered, pending investigation.
"On 16.04.2026 winglet of Spicejet B-737-700 aircraft VT-SLB taxying in to the allocated parking bay No. 106 after operating flight SG-124 (Leh-Delhi) at Terminal 1 hit the Horizontal tail surface (HTS) of Akasa B-737 aircraft positioned on the apron after push back for operating flight QP 1406 (Delhi-Hyderabad). Due to impact RH winglet of Spicejet aircraft and HTS of Akasa aircraft is damaged. DGCA is carrying out further investigation. Concerned Air Traffic control officer and the involved pilots of SpiceJet have been off rostered pending investigation," the DGCA statement read.
The right winglet of SpiceJet was damaged and the left-hand horizontal stabilizer of Akasa was hit. Akasa Air's plane was to operate flight QP-1406 from Delhi to Hyderabad while the SpiceJet aircraft had arrived from Leh.
Both aircraft have been grounded due to damages suffered in the accident, according to officials.

"Preliminary information indicates that Akasa's aircraft was stationary when another airline's aircraft made contact with it. All passengers and crew were safely disembarked, and our ground teams are making alternative arrangements to fly our passengers to Hyderabad at the earliest," Akasa airline said in a statement.
"In line with established protocols, the relevant authorities have been informed, and the matter is under investigation.
At Akasa Air, the safety and security of our passengers and crew remain our highest priority," the airline underlined.
Aviation regulator DGCA (Directorate General Of Civil Aviation) is investigating the matter.
