Indian Air Force's Hawk advanced trainer aircraft crashed in Kalaikunda, West Bengal

A Hawk advanced trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed minutes after it took off from the Air Force base in West Bengal today. Both pilots of the jet ejected safely.

The aircraft developed a snag after taking off from Kalaikunda air force base in West Midnapore around 1100 hours.

It crashed inside the boundary of the base.

Last month, a transport plane of the IAF - an AN-32 - went missing shortly after take-off from Chennai. It was carrying 29 people to Port Blair.

Search operations for the missing plane are still on. There has been no sign of debris or oil slick on the sea surface yet.
