Ahmedabad hooch death toll goes up to 26

Ahmedabad:

The number of people killed in Ahmedabad after they consumed spurious liquor has risen to 26 with 10 more cases being reported from the Odhav area of Ahmedabad. 

On Wednesday, the opposition Congress created uproar in the Gujarat Assembly. They wanted to know how such an incident took place when liquor is banned in the state.

Thirteen Congress MLAs were suspended for a day for disrupting proceedings.

Two police Inspectors have been suspended and one assistant commissioner of police  transferred in the aftermath of Ahmedabad hooch tragedy.

PTI adds: As the House proceedings began on Wednesday, Congress asked the government to explain how such a tragedy could take place in Ahmedabad when such liquor is banned in the state.

Speaker Ashok Bhatt, however, said the government can give its statement on the issue after the Question Hour.

This irked Congress MLAs some of whom rushed to the well of the House while others stood up at their places and started shouting slogans against the government and Minister of State for Home Amit Shah.

Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil demanded Shah's resignation.

The Opposition members continued with their slogan shouting and some of them also threw papers towards the Speaker's chair.

House marshals moved in to control agitated members who later walked out of the House.

The Speaker later suspended 14 Congress MLAs for the day from the Assembly for creating uproarious scenes.
