The highly inflammable gas started to leak from the well in Dandewala area of the district three kilometres from the India-Pakistan border about a week ago.

Jaisalmer: Officials in Rajasthan are still trying to contain a major gas leak from an Oil India Limited Well in Rajasthan's Dandewala region, from which highly inflammable gas has been gushing out for the last over six days, flinging desert sand high in the air.

Machines and equipment, brought from Maharashtra and Gujarat, have been deployed by the experts, who will supply chemical into the well to plug the leakage, but the flow wasn't contained yet, an official told Press Trust of India.

District collector VM Sharma said that the situation was under control and it will take a couple of more days to contain the leakage fully. There is no population in the radius of around 35 kilometres, he said.

Oil India Limited refused to comment on the incident.

Several experts from Oil India, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and other companies are present in the area to monitor the situation. Border Security Force IG BR Meghwal said that their personnel are aware of the incident.
