26/11 case: Crucial CCTV evidence missed

Mumbai: One can see the CCTV footage of RPF constables fighting Kasab and his partner Abu Ismail that were produced in court as evidence to show Kasab's involvement. There are images of Kasab and his partner Abu Ismail, after they finished killing over 50 people. However, the images of the actual carnage were never captured.

This, as 15 CCTVs surrounding the long distance platforms were down for maintenance on that fateful day.

Another shocking revelation that the original recording of the footage was not saved.

What's saved is mere copy.

This is a point in favour of the defense with the court deciding to consider the CCTV footage as secondary evidence.

Outside the courtroom, the prosecution tried to put on a brave face.

"It's a very important bit of corroborative evidence," said Ujwal Nikam, Public Prosecutor.

First, guns that did not work then CCTV cameras. The 26/11 trial continues to expose the loopholes in our security systems.
