A 16-year-old boy was killed and his brother seriously injured after their two-wheeler hit a tree near Jubilee check post at 5.30 am.

They were returning home after attending a New Year party when the accident took place, said Sub-Inspector Mahender Reddy of Jubilee Hills Police Station.

The deceased was identified as Sumanth, a student of Class 10.

In another incident, one D Ramkumar, a BPO employee, was killed after his bike hit a road-divider at around 4 am near VST sub-station, Chikadpally Sub-Inspector N Meera said.

There were reports of a few minor road accidents though there were no causalities, a police officer said.

Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police filed as many as 798 cases and seized vehicles as part of a special drive against drunken driving last night and in the early hours of today, senior police officials told PTI.

Of these, 400 cases were registered in Hyderabad and the rest in Cyberabad.

In view of the country-wide general alert issued ahead of New Year, Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police had made tight security arrangements.

Police had asked star hotels and resorts to wrap up New Year celebrations before 1 am and imposed a number of restrictions on such programmes.
