Is it advisable to take Enalapril in place of Ramistar?
Question
I am a 33 years old man who takes Ramistar 2.5 mg regularly but during my foreign visits I exhausted the medicine., Due to sudden gastric troubles coupled with no medicines, my blood pressure shot up to 160/100 mmHg. I have got Enapril maleate 5 mg. Can I use Enapril instead of Ramistrar? Also, my colleague offered Ramistar 2.5 mg but the cover appears different to the one, which I used to take. Can you confirm if these are the same: Ramtisar 2.5 containing Ramipril 2.5 mg, Excipients - q.s. Please advise.

The mode of action, safety and efficacy of ramipril and enalapril is similar. However, dose adjustment may be required. The packing and strips are sometimes changed by the manufacturers; hence I see little problem in using the strip being offered by your friend provided it was bought from a regular chemist shop and bill was obtained.
