Why Karan Johar Wants to 'Erase' His DDLJ Experience

Mumbai:

Did you know that Karan Johar was a part of the cast of the iconic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge? Of course, most of us do. But did you also know that the director turned writer turned designer turned talk show host turned media mogul turned reality show judge turned jewelry designer turned actor, now wants to forget everything about that role?

In an interview to NDTV at the launch of his jewelry brand, Karan said, "I am trying to pretend that this is my first film. So can we erase that experience?" (Also Read - Karan Johar's Bombay Velvet Experience: No Tantrums, No Black)

Why?

"Because I want to run for the debut award at 43, so why are you doing this to me?," Karan explained.

It was all in jest of course, but we agree with Karan. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge may be an iconic film but it did little for Karan's acting career. Two decades later Karan is now ready to play the bad guy in Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, which co-stars Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma and releases this May. Karan gives all the credit to his director. (Also Read: Karan Johar, Kunal Kohli and Other Directors Who Are Now Actors)

"Bombay Velvet is a vastly exciting experience for all of us. I keep telling Anurag, 'If I am good in it it's thanks to you. If I am bad in it, it's thanks to you. So you take all the discredit and credit where it's due. All I can say is that I don't think we have seen a film that looks like this," said Karan.

He is perhaps one of the few from Bollywood who has excelled in every field as far as films and television goes. Perhaps this once the awards would want to turn a blind eye to Karan's cameo in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and indeed hand him the best debutant award.
